BEVERLY HILLS – Darren Criss may be a serious dramatic actor now, having recently won an Emmy for his lead role in “The Assassination of Gianni Versace.”
But rest assured, “Glee” fans: Criss can still belt some Katy Perry.
That’s what he showed attendees of the amfAR Gala Thursday night, when he took the stage to pay tribute to honoree Perry via song.
“Now’s a really good time to start drinking, guys, because they asked me to do a medley of Katy songs, (which is) sort of like my niche.” Criss said in front of the pop star, herself, and event attendees including Orlando Bloom, Robin Thicke and Rob Pattinson.
Criss accompanied himself on guitar for “maybe about 17” Katy Perry songs, as he said, with hits from “Teenage Dream” (which figured into the set twice) to “Last Friday Night” and “Roar.”
He ended the amfAR performance with an appropriate line from “I Kissed A Girl”: “And I liked it!”
Gleeks will remember that Criss, who played Blaine on “Glee,” was introduced to TV viewers in 2010 as one of The Dalton Academy Warblers who sang “Teenage Dream.”
