L.A. duo Frenship is celebrating the release of their debut studio album “Vacation” with a similarly festive playlist for USA TODAY. Here, band members James Sunderland and Brett Hite sharesome of their favorite tracks.

Chelsea Cutler – “310 Bowery”

I’ve been listening to Chelsea since our first tour a few years ago. It’s been really fun watching her career grow over the past few years. Her early songs hold a special place close to my heart and make me think of my first days on the road. “310 Bowery” is a super pleasant trance of a song – don’t discredit it even though it’s short. — Sunderland

MØ – “Blur”

Our good buddy Stint produced this song, and I just can’t get it out of my head. Plus, Stint is one of the good ones in the music industry. I originally heard the song when MØ played at the El Rey here in Los Angeles. That down chorus is super emotional and makes me think of summer. I’m a sucker for a good vocoded vocal chorus. — Sunderland

The Japanese House – “Maybe You’re the Reason”

This song is super weird to me and almost hard to follow at points. Originally, I didn’t really like the chorus but now I can’t like it enough. It’s funky and makes me want to take off my shirt and drive up the coast in a Jeep. — Sunderland

Maggie Rogers – “The Knife”

This song feels so throwback to me. The verses are like an early ’90s hip-hop song from my childhood. A little TLC vibe in there to me. I’m a big fan of Maggie! She’s being herself, which is always great to see. — Sunderland

Shawn Mendes – “There’s Nothing Holding Me Back”

I gotta shout out this song even though it’s a little older. This one is just a damn fine pop song. The way that chorus hits is great. It’s simple, catchy and makes me grit my face and move. Shawn sings his butt off all over the song. Three thumbs up. — Sunderland

Unknown Mortal Orchestra – “Multi-Love”

I love songs that have a structure that I don’t pay attention to.  This is a tune that I got lost in the uniqueness of at every turn. — Hite

Bruce Springsteen – “I’m on Fire”

I love that this is only 2 minutes and 35 seconds long.  Bruce has a way of figuring out how to say exactly what he wants and making it have significant impact on the listener.  The second verse in particular is so good to me. — Hite

Big Red Machine – “OMDB”

I’m such a huge fan of anything Justin Vernon does, and all of this Big Red Machine stuff is no exception.  His songwriting is tastefully patient to me. — Hite

Local Natives – “When Am I Gonna Lose You”

This is a newer tune, but I’ve been jamming to it a lot lately.  The groove is relatively straight forward, which lets the bass have a bit more fun too. Then the chorus is set up so nice and is so sing-able. — Hite

AlunaGeorge – “Not Above Love”

You could be the most vanilla dude out there, but you listen to this one and you’re destined to get some degree of stank face. — Hite
