Bebe Rexha is opening up about her mental health.
The “Meant To Be” singer, 29, candidly revealed on Twitter Monday that she is bipolar, sharing her diagnosis with her millions of followers in a series of emotional tweets.
“For the longest time, I didn’t understand why I felt so sick,” she wrote. “Why I felt lows that made me not want to leave my house or be around people and why I felt highs that wouldn’t let me sleep, wouldn’t let me stop working or creating music. Now I know why.”
Rexha continued: “I’m bipolar and I’m not ashamed anymore. That is all. (Crying my eyes out.)”
The Grammy-nominated artist asked her fans for acceptance amid her mental health journey: “I don’t want you to feel sorry for me. I just want you to accept me.”
She also shared that the diagnosis inspired her new approach to making music. “This next album will be favorite album ever because I’m not holding anything back. I love you all very much. And I hope you accept me as I am,” she tweeted.
A day earlier, Rexha took to her Instagram page to express her gratitude to all the fans who have continually supported her throughout her career.
“That means everything to me,” she said during an Instagram Video Sunday. “So today I am grateful for all my fans and for all the people who believed in me and supported me. So, I guess thank you very much if you’re watching this.”
Rexha shared screenshots of her emotional tweets on Instagram, captioning the post, “Honesty is a form of self love.”
