Iggy Azalea is defending her decision to continue performing at a concert in Brazil while one of her backup dancers passed out and suffered a seizure onstage.
The scary incident took place during a concert in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday, when the rapper was performing “Black Widow.” Footage shows one of Iggy’s four backup dancers passed out onstage, as another dancer tends to the woman.
The Australian native immediately called for a medic as she continued to perform, unaware of the seriousness of the dancer’s condition. In the background, the unconscious dancer started to convulse and the music was abruptly cut off as paramedics rushed the stage.
“Just want to let everyone asking know my dancer is OKAY!” Iggy wrote on her Instagram story after the incident. “The heat & lights caused her to have a seizure. She is backstage feeling much better.”
However, the “Fancy” rapper came under fire for her decision to keep performing in midst of the incident. Iggy addressed the criticism, revealing that she initially thought her dancer “had just fallen/twisted her ankle.”
“It may sound harsh but; you keep singing until the music stops & ask for a medic which is what I did,” she wrote. “We are all really shaken up by what happened & just thankful she is okay.”
The rapper concluded her message by asking fans to be respectful toward her dancer and not post any memes pertaining to the event.
