Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber dropped their second musical collaboration, “I Don’t Care.” The duo worked together in 2015 on the song “Love Yourself.”
Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber are back with their first collaboration since 2015, a new song that’s sure to be on heavy rotation this summer.
Sheeran released “I Don’t Care” on Friday, a new single featuring Bieber, with the two singers trading lyrics about feeling like outcasts at a party over snappy, summery instrumentals from mega-producers Max Martin and Shellback.
Bieber and Sheeran sing about feeling lonely and isolated in a crowded room. “I don’t ever wear a suit and tie,” Sheeran declares, while Bieber nods at his struggles that he’s previously spoken about publicly, singing, “With all these people all around / I’m crippled with anxiety.”
For Sheeran, and Bieber, their romantic counterparts at the party are the only thing that makes their nights bearable, as they sing on the chorus, “‘Cause I don’t care when I’m with my baby, yeah / All the bad things disappear / Yeah, you’re making me feel like maybe I am somebody / I can deal with the bad nights when I’m with my baby.”
The song is both singers’ first in a considerable amount of time. For Sheeran, it’s his first proper taste of new music since his 2017 release “Divide,” though he and Bieber were two of the many artists featured in Lil Dicky’s “Earth” music video. As for Bieber, his last single was 2017’s “Friends,” though he’s shown up on several songs since then.
Bieber, 25, has made headlines most recently by sharing his ongoing struggle with mental health. In a March 25 Instagram post, he told fans that he knows they want a new album and more concerts, but he has some work to do before he’s ready for all of that.
“I am now very focused on repairing some of the deep rooted issues that I have as most of us have, so that I don’t fall apart, so that I can sustain my marriage (with model Hailey B) and be the father I want to be,” he wrote with what appears to be a picture of himself in his fashion line from the neck down. “Music is very important to me but Nothing comes before my family and my health.”
But the Biebs assured fans at the time that he plans on coming back with a new album “ASAP” (and) “with a vengeance.”
