There’s about a week left in 2019, and though Rihanna long ago promised fans an album this year, she has yet to deliver.
The “Ocean’s 8” actress told fans in December 2018 that she’d release an album this year, and Sunday, she teased fans waiting for an update on the status of “R9.”
The Barbadian singer shared a video to Instagram of a dog sitting in a box excitedly bobbing its head back and forth to the tune of “Jump Around” by House of Pain.”
Rihanna captioned the post, “update: me listening to R9 by myself and refusing to release it.”
Fans and celebrities took to Rihanna’s page to join in on the joke, asking the artist to release the album.
Singer Normani commented on the video with three laughing face emojis while artist SZA wrote, “LOL.”
Waka Flocka’s wife and reality star, Tammy Rivera, asked the artist, “Why you playing with us babyyyyyyy.”
Rihanna’s last album, “Anti,” dropped in January 2016, but the artist has kept busy starring in movies and launching her beauty and lingerie lines, Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty.
The “Wild Thoughts” artist said her ninth studio album would be inspired by reggae.
“It’s not gonna be typical of what you know as reggae,” Rihanna told Vogue in an interview published in October. “Reggae always feels right to me. It’s in my blood. It doesn’t matter how far or long removed I am from that culture or my environment that I grew up in; it never leaves.”
Rihanna’s album has no official release date, but fans are still holding out hope that it will be available by the end of the year.
“It’s all good u still have 9 days tho (sic),” wrote Instagram user @dilek.xo.
“So u meant R9 is totally finished?” asked user @emirbozgan hopefully.
