The designer is set to showcase his upcoming ‘TommyNow’ see-now-buy-now fashion concept in the US city in September, following a whirlwind few years that have seen his eponymous label put on energetic presentations in Los Angeles, London, Shanghai and Paris.
The show will take place at the Apollo Theater in Harlem on September 8, during New York Fashion Week. It will include the Fall 2019 edition of his collaboration with the singer and actress Zendaya, who was allegedly influential in picking the location of the runway presentation.
“Zendaya’s desire to bring TommyNow to Harlem felt like an amazing next step in expressing her vision for the future,” Hilfiger said in a statement. “Her statement-making point of view in everything she does is what makes her such an inspiring collaborator — it is an honor to continue to provide her with a platform in the fashion industry to share this.”
Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Patti LaBelle and The Supremes have all graced the stage at The Apollo, and according to a Tommy Hilfiger press statement, the Fall 2019 Tommy X Zendaya collection “takes cue from these strong and confident women, reimagining era-defining power dressing with a bold modern edge.” The star was first snapped up by the brand back in October, and her debut Tommy X Zendaya collection was unveiled in Paris earlier this year.
Hilfiger first unveiled his ‘TommyNow’ concept in 2016, adopting a ‘see-now-buy-now’ strategy that allows fans to purchase the collections unveiled at his interactive shows fresh off the catwalk. His events have taken on multiple themes, such as fashion funfairs, a music festival and Formula One racing.
